My Background
I've been doing proofreading and editing work since 2017. In this time I've worked for clients across the whole spectrum of academic subject areas, including history, economics, politics, psychology, education, computer science, religion, sociology, earth science and linguistics. I've likewise taken on projects ranging from undergraduate students' essays to preparing books and journals for publication. I currently do regular work for two philosophy journals, as a copyeditor for Passion and as a proofreader for Analysis Reviews. I've also made revisions to books which have gone on to be released by major publishers such as De Gruyter.
About the Services I Offer
Proofreading and copyediting involve suggesting ways to improve the accuracy and style of something that you've written. Proofreading, in short, means finding the inaccuracies and inconsistencies in spelling, grammar, formatting and punctuation in your work, and then finding ways to fix them. Copyediting (sometimes just called editing) involves this too, but it also involves making more detailed suggestions for how to improve the overall style of your work: the end result is a text which is elegant and easy to understand, flows well, and feels polished.
In both proofreading and copyediting, my goal is to help you achieve the best and most authentic expression of your ideas – I would say that my two unique strengths are in finding ways to make improvements without disturbing the author's "voice", and in offering fleshed-out suggestions and interpretations when there is ambiguity or a number of stylistic choices available.
